Jayaram Banan’s culinary journey started in 1967 when he arrived in Mumbai, a bustling city known for its diverse food culture. At 13, he left his home in Uddapi, Karnataka, and embarked on a daring adventure with limited resources. Despite his young age, he found employment as a hotel worker, taking on low-paying tasks such as washing and cleaning. Over the next few years, he kept going and worked his way up, eventually becoming a manager. This period marked his initial encounter with the hospitality industry and laid the foundation for his future success.
In the late 1970s, Jayaram Banan relocated to Delhi, where he faced the fierce competition of the culinary world. Coming out strong, he secured a tender for the canteen of Central Electronics, demonstrating his entrepreneurial awareness. By saving enthusiastically, he opened his small South Indian restaurant in Delhi, marking the beginning of his independent culinary establishment.
