With a burning passion for introducing the world to the rich and diverse flavours of Indian food, Jayaram started his culinary journey in the city of dreams – Amchi Mumbai in 1967. His daring decision of running away from home at the young age of 13 with nothing but enough money for the bus ride from Mangalore changed his entire life, and how!
Jayaram’s survival in the strange city with unknown people was through his job as a hotel worker, where he did all the menial jobs of washing, cleaning, and everything in between before he finally landed the role of the manager in 6 quick years! Bas phir kya….This was just the beginning. He had tasted a fleeting feeling of success, and he wasn’t going to stop before he had it all!
Banan’s journey wasn’t all sugar spice and everything nice; he faced challenges that tested his mettle. He moved to Delhi, and amidst the fierce culinary competition managed to secure the tender for the canteen of Central Electronics. He then saved up to open his small South Indian restaurant in Delhi.
Jayaram Banan explored new ways to tantalise taste buds and began experimenting with fusion cuisine, blending traditional Indian flavours with a touch of Continental finesse, and then there was no looking back.
His restaurant overtook practically every big name in the business. Despite the phenomenal success, Jayaram’s hunger for success was far from satiated. Hence came many other establishments like Swagath.
